How can we help people feel less lonely?

Social isolation is generally most common among the elderly but occurs at all ages. There is a clear connection between social isolation and not having a close friend.

Social isolation is dangerous to health and comparable to having poor lifestyles. Loneliness means an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke and dementia. The risk also increases for mental problems. How do we meet loneliness among the city's residents? How can we find new ways to break involuntary loneliness?
